I arrived at Scotts Valley a few minutes before 7 p.m. There were three people on the bench, and while in a game, Mark Dettle immediately suggested we set up a fifth net. “Hey, Rob! Want to help me set up another net?” Rob was agreeable and we did.
Colleen and I played game against Rob and a younger fellow named Adrian. I think I’d seen Adrian once before, but I didn’t know his name. Colleen and I won pretty handily.
New guy Brennan was back. He and I played a game against Colleen and Allan. We won.
Bruce and I teamed up against Rob and Mark Dettle. We had to come back in that game, but we won.
Brennan and I played a couple games against Oleg and Olga. We came back to win the first game and won a bit more easily on the second.
Later, I got to play with Eric. We played against Brennan and Rob twice and won both games.
Then we played against Oleg and Brennan. That was a real challenge. We lost the first game by roughly a 2:1 ratio, the second game, it wasn’t even remotely close, we lost 11-1! Yipe! But it was really great to be strongly challenged! Even in the loss, it was awesome!
The takeaway lesson for Eric and me was to better adapt our approach to the game when what we are doing isn’t working. Now to learn how to do that!
