Thursday, October 10, 2024 (Court Day #725)
It was pleasantly cool today and as I drove to Scott Valley this evening, it was 66°F. The sun had set, but it was still light.
Tuesday night, for the very first time I’d worn my new special green Santa Cruz Pickleball Club shirt. This shirt has the extra “Board Member” on the front and “Site Coordinator” on the back. Maybe the shirt is bad luck given the lights didn’t work that night!
Tall James had come into my work again to pick up some art supplies—he’s working on a large sign for his friend in Southern California. I wish I’d get the opportunity to play with him more often, he’s a really good player.

I arrived around 7 p.m. We had a small crowd. We barely filled all the courts. Maybe the lights being out on Tuesday scared some people away tonight.
The first game of the night was over in myself against Jay and a tall blonde woman that I don’t know named Chris. I think Chris is primarily a tennis player. She was an odd mix of really great shots and rookie shots. Ofer and I fell behind early, but then came back and won by a comfortable margin.
The games were fun, mostly middle of the road in terms of skill level, none was all 4.0+ players, for instance.
Avery and I got into a game together, and we won of course. I also got into a game against Avery—that was more fun.
The lights clicked out about 8:30 p.m. and that was that.
